Returning to Skating

Hi, my name is Erin and I decided to return to skating this year. I used to figure skate roughly from when I was seven to thirteen years old. After that I switched to hockey for four years before going to University, when I had to quit skating of any kind due to no time and no space in a dorm room for a giant smelly hockey bag. Somehow twelve years passed with only a few pubic skate and casual hockey sessions, but I refused to get rid of either my figure skates or my hockey gear. This year I will turn thirty, and having also witnessed the Olympics come to my town, my interest in sport (both to watch it and to do it) has experienced a revival. This year I also moved and now I frequently go past an arena. After passing by it a number of times I finally contacted the local figure skating club and posted my profile on the adult recreational hockey league website. I didn't expect too much of a response from either, but I now have both a FS coach and a halftime berth on a women's recreational hockey team starting in September. I'm very excited to go back to both of these sports, I am still young enough to do them to some level of achievement and maybe even have more fun this time with a more mature perspective.

I also hope that this blog will help me connect with other adults in skating, especially figure skating. It is a sport overrun with little girls, and I stick out as the old lady on the ice. It's a bit strange, so if anyone has a similar story I'd like to hear it. I will be posting my progress here as I make my return to ice sports, mostly as a personal journal, but I also hope it is an interesting read for a few people too.
